In a short span this year, the number of states allowing constitutional, or permitless carry of concealed firearms has increased dramatically. Today there are twenty-one states where permitless carry is either already in place or will be soon. The map below shows those states in green. Texas Poised to Become 21st Permitless Carry State
The Texas legislature has passed a bill that will allow the state to join 20 others as a permitless carry state. The bill is awaiting Gov. Greg Abbot's signature. The governor has signaled he will sign it, making Texas the 21st permitless carry state in America. The Wall Street Journal reports: Supporters of the bill say it would allow Texans to better defend themselves in public while abolishing unnecessary impediments to the constitutional right to bear arms. In April, Tennessee joined the ranks of the states where gun owners can carry without a permit after Governor Bill Lee signed the legislature's permitless carry bill in law. Constitutional Carry: Another State Chooses Second Amendment Freedom
You know constitutional carry matters for citizens who want to defend themselves. Now, another state has joined the 18 that already protected the constitutional carry of firearms. Iowa's governor, Kim Reynold (R), has signed a law eliminating the need to get a permit to buy or carry handguns in the Hawkeye State. Utah Moves Toward Permitless Concealed Carry
UPDATE: Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed HB 60 into law on February 12. Folks in Utah could soon be allowed to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. Utahans can already open carry a firearm without a license, but could be permitted by a proposed law to cover that firearm with their clothing. This makes sense for Utah, and can help protect them from violent crime. I recently wrote to you that Governor Matt Bevin of Kentucky signed a bill giving Kentuckians the right to concealed carry without a permit. The NRA said that Kentucky was the 16th state to recognize constitutional carry.
