For the third time the U.S. is planning a salvage mission for an F-35 that has crashed into the sea. In April of 2019, a Japanese F-35A crashed into the Pacific Ocean killing the pilot and leaving behind only debris. In November of 2021, a UK F-35B crashed into the Mediterranean during takeoff and was recently recovered during a secret operation. That pilot was able to eject safely. DEFIANT Completes Successful Mission Profile Tests
Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky-Boeing DEFIANT has successfully completed the FLRAA mission profile flight test. The test included extremely confined area landings and low-level flight operations. The DEFIANT with its X2 technology provides precise low speed handling, level body acceleration, level body deceleration, and a high turn rate. The Lockheed Martin Sikorsky-Boeing SB>1 DEFIANT® successfully completed FLRAA mission profile test flights, including confined area landings and low-level flight operations. These flights validate DEFIANT’s relevancy to the Army’s mission, providing agility … [Read more...]
New Russian Camouflage Could Make Armored Vehicles Invisible
The Russian Army could soon be invisible to 95% of NATO UAVs, thanks to a new camouflage nicknamed “Chameleon.” The system was developed by Ruselectronics, and is made up of small plates with an electrochromic coating. It can copy not only the color of the surrounding environment but also its structure. Grigory Voevodin of Russia Beyond writes (abridged): The new camouflage technology has been nicknamed Chameleon. It is based on so-called electrochromic “glass” that consists of composite materials and changes color and transparency when an electrical current is applied. The first … [Read more...]
DANGER: China’s New AI Satellite Twice as Fast as American Tech
A Chinese satellite, called the Beijing-3, recently scanned 1,470 square miles of the San Francisco Bay area in less than 42 seconds. Researchers are saying Beijing-3, which launched in June of 2021, has a response time that is two to three times faster than American satellites. This comes with concerns that China is currently building and fielding space capabilities at twice the rate of the U.S. It’s said that Beijing-3 can observe up to 500 areas around the world and can revisit them up to 100 times per day, reports Matthew Loh of the Insider. He writes (abridged): The satellite was … [Read more...]

In Crazy Video, Russia Unveils Unmanned Stealth Jetfighter Concept
Back in July 2021, we wrote about the Russian single engine stealth jetfighter known as Checkmate after it had been unveiled at the MAKS 2021 air show. Rostec, the Russian state-owned parent of aircraft producer, Sukhoi, has now published a promotional video to its YouTube channel showing a proposed unmanned version of the Checkmate platform. Checkmate, which Rostec claims will cost $30 million, has its sights set on the $84 million dollar F-35. … [Read more...]
Is Hydrogen Fuel the Answer?
For supporters, expectations are high that green hydrogen will become the fuel of the future. But for critics, green hydrogen is a, complex, expensive and energy intensive process for storing power. It would require a massive amount of renewable energy generation to meet just 25% of energy demand, which is the estimated amount needed to hit policymakers’ 2050 goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. Achieving such a goal with hydrogen would require more electricity than is currently created by all sources worldwide, says a March 2020 report, “Hydrogen Economy Outlook,” by … [Read more...]
New Smart Weapon Has Enemy Tanks in Its Sites
StormBreaker, the all-weather smart weapon, with 90 percent success rate, conducted its first ever drop from a Marine Corps. F-35B Lightning II on November 29th, 2021. StormBreaker weighs just over 200 pounds, has a 45-mile range, and is equipped with a tri-mode seeker (millimeter wave radar, infrared, and semi- active laser) to allow it to see through fog, smoke, and rain. Its interchangeable warheads include shape charge jets, fragmentation and blast charge effects, and an option for a delayed smart fuse, are powerful enough to defeat tanks. Integration activities for the F-35 and the F/A 18 … [Read more...]
First-Ever Counter-Hypersonic Interceptor in the Works
The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has chosen Raytheon Missiles and Defense, Lockheed Martin, & Northrop Grumman to design the first-ever Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) for regional hypersonic missile defense. The MDA and the Space Development Agency are also working on developing a Hypersonic Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) satellite for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to expand the GPI’s reach. Theresa Hitchens of Breaking Defense writes (abridged): WASHINGTON: The Missile Defense Agency has tapped Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to compete in developing a new Glide Phase … [Read more...]
Is China About to Invade Taiwan?
In Tiananmen Square at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of China Communist Party’s founding, Xi Jinping called for a forced reunification with self-ruled Taiwan in a quest for a “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.” He warned that anyone who bullies China “will have their heads bashed and bloody against the Great Wall of Steel forged by over 1.4 billion Chinese people.” In preparation for defending its territorial claims, China has been fortifying its coastline and militarizing man-made islands in the South China Sea, and slowly taking over more territory in the Spratly … [Read more...]
