Originally posted on October 22, 2020. Your Survival Guy filled out paperwork last night for an ArmaLite AR-10. For those of you wondering why, I did it for three reasons. For one, I have a friend who owns a ranch in Texas—an expanse as far as the eye can see. He owns an AR-10. Your Survival guy was intrigued. Second, I see it as a complement to my AR-15. The caliber ammo for an AR-10 is .308. An AR-15 .223. Unless you’ve been living in Joe Biden’s basement the last few months, you know ammo is as rare as hens’ teeth—and expensive. A little diversification never hurt no one. Your Survival … [Read more...]
Today’s Suburban Female Voter: “You Ain’t Takin’ My Guns.”
Originally posted on January 28, 2020. “According to statistics from the NRA, around 23% of women in the U.S. own guns, when just 13% did in 2005,” writes Susanne Edward in her piece in Americas1stFreedom, “The RISE of the Woman Gun Owner.” “The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF),” she continues, “has documented a 77% rise in female gun ownership since 2005.” As Democrats target the suburban female demographic in 2020, they might want to check that, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47” strategy at the door. It turns out women care about their safety, … [Read more...]
Every Family Should Own at Least One Shotgun: Here Are Three
Originally posted November 25, 2020. Every family should own at least one shotgun for home defense. A home defense shotgun should possess specific qualities, including: Easy to use Rugged and reliable Easy-to-find replacement parts/accessories Easy: You want a gun that’s easy to use. If the worst happens and you wake up to trouble in the middle of the night, bleary-eyed and forced to fight, you don’t want to have to think too hard about your home defense shotgun. Rugged: You also don’t want your home defense shotgun breaking or jamming in the middle of a fight. You need a … [Read more...]
Even in Deep Blue States, Firearms Training Courses Are Packed
Even in the Democrat-blue New England states like Rhode Island, Americans are telling their governments "You ain't takin my guns." In fact, at the Newport Rifle Club in Middletown, RI, instructors simply can't offer enough classes to meet all the demand for training. The Newport Daily News reports (abridged): MIDDLETOWN — Interest has been so strong and registration so swift for a February pistol course at the Newport Rifle Club that the club’s chief instructor scheduled an additional class for March. “I wasn’t planning on holding a class in March,” David Balasco said. But the National … [Read more...]
Sheep Get Killed: How to Be a Wolf
Originally posted March 5, 2013. Your voice could save your life. Using it effectively is the single most important defensive tactic I learned in my latest self-defense and survival training course. Over the eight-hour course “Introduction to Defensive Shooting,” the third installment in a four-part shooting development series at Sig Sauer Academy in Epping, New Hampshire, there’s a lot of screaming. On the way home, my friend and I, voices shot, were rasping about how much information was thrown at us. As our academy director and instructor, Adam Painchaud, warned us in the morning, … [Read more...]
Will You Be Ready When the Mob Comes a Knockin’?
Are you prepared for winter? I hope you are. This one might be a tough one. You know that along with strengthening your immunity and getting your guns and your training (read here, here, here, and here for starters), you also need to consider the violence spreading to the burbs. It’s tragic, especially if you live in the blue states/cities, you see how leaders have prolonged the devastation from this virus for their own political gain. Take a look at the 2,000-plus page, $2.2 trillion with a “t”, Pelosi pork-ridden relief bill, and the largest line item by far is $436 billion for, wait … [Read more...]
Friday Night Shoot with My Kids
For years, when my kids were younger, we would go to our rifle club with my friend and his two daughters for a Friday night kids shoot sponsored by the club. We’d grab dinner beforehand and then head over. Every session began with a video on safety and then the kids, from all over the island, would have a club member help them work the club's .22 rifles. It was fun bringing the targets home and standing around the kitchen island talking about shots taken, good and bad. This Friday my kids will drive to the club together for their junior membership orientations, but this time without … [Read more...]
Second Amendment Principles Become Self Defense Practicality
You may be one of the many Americans who has long supported the Second Amendment but never felt inclined to own a firearm yourself. That group of Americans is shrinking rapidly, as those who have long believed in the Second Amendment but never owned a firearm are purchasing guns at record rates. First-time gun ownership is soaring, and it's not because of some newfound philosophical understanding of the Second Amendment. Gun ownership is soaring because of the practical need for self-defense. Americans are literally watching their police forces sent home. Cities across the nation are … [Read more...]
