NATO has issued a warning after Russia’s powerful K-329 Belgorod has gone off the radar. The submarine reportedly has the ability to wipe out cities using a radioactive tsunami created by detonating an underwater nuclear drone torpedo called a Poseidon. The apocalyptic weapon has a 10,000km range and can travel at 125mph. It can carry a two-megaton warhead capable of creating a 300ft tall wall of radioactive water. The Belgorod can carry up to 6 Poseidon torpedo’s. Will Stewart and Imogen Braddick of The U.S. Sun writes (abridged):
As the tyrant edges the world into the most dangerous moment since his shambolic Ukraine invasion, there are fears Russia’s giant nuclear-capable torpedo is now on the warpath.
The powerful K-329 Belgorod can reportedly trigger radioactive tsunamis and wipe out enemy coastlines with its underwater drone torpedo, Poseidon.
The Russian Navy took delivery of the “city killer” submarine – which at 604ft is the longest sub ever built in the world – in July after successful trials.
Details of the submarine’s high speed 125mph underwater propulsion system have long been a closely guarded Russian secret.
But NATO has now sent a chilling warning to its member nations about the location of the 14,700-ton war machine, La Repubblica reports.
The Belgorod is currently said to be submerged in Arctic waters, and it’s feared Putin will use the mission to test the weapon for the first time.
Putin vowed to use “any means” to defend the four Ukrainian regions annexed to Russia as he ramps up his nuclear threats and his invasion enters an unpredictable new phase.
The Belgorod has previously been hailed as a “game changer” for Putin’s navy after suffering a series of humiliations in the Ukraine war.
The Kremlin said the monster sub will carry up to eight Poseidons, each 79ft long, ready to unleash Armageddon.
