The 43-member gun-safety task force that Gov. Gina Raimondo created last April has released its final recommendations. And it neuters Second Amendment rights for all Rhode Islanders—most of all law-abiding Rhode Islanders who own guns. I’ll make two points. First, the recommendation “Prohibits the concealed carry of firearms on the school grounds and within 1,000 feet of elementary or secondary schools and in government buildings.” Why don’t they just put a banner on the front of all schools “Welcome to Our School We’re Unarmed.” I have always felt that school administrators should do quite … [Read more...]
My Favorite Guns
My favorite guns are the ones you own. But for me, when it comes to handguns, I favor Sig Sauer simply because of my training at Sig Sauer Academy. (read more about my trips to Sig Sauer Academy here, here, and here). When I talk to my friends who own Glocks, they tell me how much they love them. I’m in the process of purchasing the Glock 19x—the model put forward in the U.S. Army handgun selection contest, because I figure if my friends love Glocks, and Glock submitted it for the competition, then it’s probably more than OK for me. At the end of the day, there’s never a bad time to get … [Read more...]

In Boise, Idaho on Saturday, a man attacked a child's birthday party, stabbing six children. When three adults tried to intervene, he stabbed them as well. This was a career criminal who had spent time in prison. The man, Timothy Kinner, allegedly attacked the party where refugees from Iraq, Syria and Ethiopia were celebrating the third birthday of a little girl. She was injured in the attack. Courtney Han, Mark Osborne and Bill Hutchinson report: The rampage occurred at the Wylie Street Station apartments, a low-income complex where many refugees have been settled. Bones said Kinner is … [Read more...]
Get Your Gun and Your Training—NOW: Revisited
Originally posted October 26, 2016. Your Second Amendment rights are on the line on November 8th. In a recent conversation with a gun store owner, he told me he cannot keep self-defense guns on the shelves. What he means is the concealed carry pistols are out of stock. What I have learned is how important it is to get your training before making any purchase. I’ve taken hours of coursework at my favored Sig Sauer Academy. A friend of mine just finished 10-hours of training with Surefire in Wyoming. Go to NRA.com to find training near you. You will not regret it. Dick Young wrote the piece … [Read more...]
Get Your Gun and Your Training Now, Part V
Shot-down at the counter! “I got turned down. I need a license to carry card. Joke,” texted my brother-in-law Jason to me a couple of weeks ago. Welcome to Massachusetts. Jason is from Montana, where you can pretty much buy a gallon of milk along with your ammo no questions asked. He knew I was looking for some .22 LR ammo. He spotted a couple of boxes and texted me if I wanted them, hence the “I got turned down” text. He’s got the card now thanks to “America’s Guest,” as he’s apt to call a politician, for providing the ammunition/motivation.. Get your guns and your … [Read more...]
Get Your Gun and Your Training Now, Part IV
With the potential appointment of the radical anti-gun judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, Americans' individual right to bear arms is only one decision away from being history. In this series I've already explained that you need to find the right gun for you, and then get trained properly in how to use it. Once you know how to safely handle your firearm, it's time to begin working on your accuracy. This is where practice begins to take precedent over enthusiasm. It's easy to get jazzed up about going to the gun shop and loading up on new equipment, and it's not hard to sit through … [Read more...]

Obama Nominates Garland: Get Your Gun and Your Training Now
Do you own a firearm? If not, for the safety of you and your family you should consider buying one now. President Obama has nominated the radical, anti-gun judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court seat vacated by the passing of long-time second amendment supporter Justice Antonin Scalia. If Garland reaches the high court, he'll tip the balance of justices to a majority against the individual right to bear arms. The NRA released a statement skewering Garland over his record: Obama has already nominated two Supreme Court justices who oppose the right to own firearms and there is absolutely … [Read more...]
