UPDATE: Reports are surfacing that the Hellfire’s big brother, the JAGM was used in the Soleimani strike. - Steve Schneider The key figures in the January 3 U.S. airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani have been identified, most notably Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and commander of Kataeb Hezbollah. Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was listed as a terrorist in the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Some security experts are divided on whether Muhandis was specifically targeted or if he was a bonus kill. Iranian and Iraqi officials have … [Read more...]

Utah Moves Toward Permitless Concealed Carry
UPDATE: Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed HB 60 into law on February 12. Folks in Utah could soon be allowed to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. Utahans can already open carry a firearm without a license, but could be permitted by a proposed law to cover that firearm with their clothing. This makes sense for Utah, and can help protect them from violent crime. Katie McKellar of the Deseret News reports: “This bill allows law-abiding citizens to be able to carry their weapons to protect themselves,” Brooks said. “Legal and law-abiding citizens do just that. They’re careful, and … [Read more...]
Your Personal Safety: Concealed-Carry How to Carry Your Freedom
A number of years ago now, when I took an all-day concealed-carry course at Sig Sauer Academy in Epping, NH, our instructor began the class by asking, “Should you conceal carry?” We were quiet as he scanned the class. Then, a few hands went up. “Yes, especially with how crazy things are where I live,” began one older gentleman. "My dog was shot last month by some kid. That’s why I’m here.” “Yes," responded another woman there by herself. "I’ve been around law enforcement administratively long enough now where too many bad guys know my face,” she said. “All good reasons,” said the … [Read more...]
Every Family Should Own at Least One Shotgun: Here Are Three

A home defense shotgun should possess specific qualities, including: Easy to use Rugged and reliable Easy-to-find replacement parts/accessories Easy: You want a gun that’s easy to use. If the worst happens and you wake up to trouble in the middle of the night, bleary-eyed and forced to fight, you don’t want to have to think too hard about your home defense shotgun. Rugged: You also don’t want your home defense shotgun breaking or jamming in the middle of a fight. You need a … [Read more...]
Buying Time When You Need to Flee
For a little over ten bucks, I bought some life insurance in the form of pepper gel at my favored Walmart.com. Having heard about the potential blowback into your own face using pepper spray, I decided to arm my family with gel. The idea of using peppery gel or pepper spray is not for self-defense, but to buy you time when you need to flee. You know the importance of this election. You know Americans are on edge. Action Line: You need to give you and your family an edge whenever and wherever possible. This is a cheap way to do it. I’ll have more ideas just like this next week. … [Read more...]
Sheep Get Killed: How to Be a Wolf
Originally posted March 5, 2013. Your voice could save your life. Using it effectively is the single most important defensive tactic I learned in my latest self-defense and survival training course. Over the eight-hour course “Introduction to Defensive Shooting,” the third installment in a four-part shooting development series at Sig Sauer Academy in Epping, New Hampshire, there’s a lot of screaming. On the way home, my friend and I, voices shot, were rasping about how much information was thrown at us. As our academy director and instructor, Adam Painchaud, warned us in the morning, … [Read more...]
Production of Israel’s Iron Dome Weapon System Coming to U.S.
Raytheon and RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems are teaming up to produce the Iron Dome Weapon System in the U.S. This will be the first Iron Dome production facility outside of Israel and will expand availability to the U.S. and its allies. Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather short-range air defense system with a success rate exceeding 90 percent. Each battery can defend up to 60 square miles, determining if an incoming threat will land in populated areas or uninhabited areas to minimize unnecessary countermeasures, effectively lowering its operating cost. America’s Largest Nuke – The B83 Bomb

Caleb Larson, a defense writer for The National Interest, writes (abridged): At nearly one and a half tons, the B83 is the largest nuclear bomb that the United States currently keeps. Its nuclear tiled is 1.2 megatons—significantly more powerful than either of the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. It’s big, it’s powerful, and it’s had a colorful history. Though … [Read more...]
China is Fortifying its Coastline
China’s recent advancements in space technology and missiles are creating a defensive bubble that will be difficult to penetrate. China has dramatically expanded its firepower, most notably with its satellite networks and missiles, pushing the boundaries of its anti-access/area denial strategy (A2/D2) to new ranges. The news of an air-to-air missile in development, the “PL-XX,” which could target vital air tankers, AEW&C aircraft, JSTARs, and even high-flying unmanned aircraft at a range of 188 miles, could put U.S. fighter jets at a disadvantage. Mike Yeo of DefenseNews writes: The U.S. … [Read more...]
