UPDATE: After President Trump negotiated a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico, auto manufacturers are looking at bringing jobs back to North America. The Wall Street Journal's Chester Dawson and William Boston report on the new deal: "The tentative deal, which replaces Nafta, requires auto makers to build at least 75% of a car’s value in North America to remain duty-free within the region, up from 62.5% currently. Car companies also have to ensure 40% to 45% of the vehicle is made by workers earning at least $16 an hour, a provision aimed at steering more work to the U.S. to generate … [Read more...]
Feinstein and Flake Make a Mockery of the Confirmation Process
The fix was in back in July, set up by the negligence of Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office. It was delay, delay, delay from the start. Now that the Dems have their delay, do Republicans like Jeff Flake really believe they're going to accept any findings that don’t remove Kavanaugh? Not a chance. And yet, aren’t we glad Sen. Jeff Flake can sleep better at night? Please. The only person Flake is trying to help is himself (let’s hope he's unsuccessful). But by putting more time on the clock he’s allowed this now broken process to go on for at least another week. What a pathetic … [Read more...]

Syria’s Four Fronts and a Perfect Storm of Chaos
As you can see in the map above, the Syrian civil war has many fronts and many players. Those fronts are increasingly more complicated as outside forces are getting increasingly involved. As Haaretz explains in “Syrias Four-Front War and the Unprecedented Chaos It Has Created,” the recent chaos has seen al-Qaida rebels shooting down a Russian jet, Kurdish fighters downing a Turkish helicopter, Israel downing a Iranian drone, and the Syrian army shooting down an Israeli F-16, all within a week. Below, Haaretz breaks down these Syrian Fronts. 1) Turkey's war on the Kurds Turkey opened a new … [Read more...]
Russian Reinforcements Heading to Syria
Reports indicate Russia is sending ships, including its Project 117 Alligator-class amphibious landing ship, loaded with military trucks, tanks, and armored vehicles to Syria. The ships are believed to be heading for Russia’s Naval supply base in Tartus. They were spotted in the Bosporus Sea Channel reports the Daily Mail. Two Russian warships laden with military vehicles have been spotted en route to Syria after Friday's US-led airstrikes obliterated three suspected chemical weapons sites. An Alligator-landing ship was pictured cruising down The Bosphorus on Sunday as the world … [Read more...]
“Here I Am! Don’t Shoot!”
Originally posted June 12, 2013. Gun-free zones don’t make you safe - they make those wishing to steal your birthday safe. As Allysia Finley of The Wall Street Journal notes: But it's also worth pointing out that the state of California and city of Los Angeles have among the strictest gun-control laws in the country. According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, California's gun-control laws were the toughest in the country in 2011. Los Angeles's gun-buyback program has removed more than 11,000 guns from the street during Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's eight-year tenure. … [Read more...]
The Real Tax-Cut “Mafia Thugs”
Who will foot the tax bill in high tax states if the successful decide to pick-up and leave? With all the hand wringing by blue state politicians about this tax cut triggering "an economic civil war" or comparing Republicans to "mafia thugs" maybe they should consider creating more ways to keep successful Americans living there. The WSJ has more here: You can figure out who most needs reform by the decibels of protest. Amid other apocalyptic warnings, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo last weekend declared that the GOP bill’s limit on the state-and-local tax deduction will trigger "an economic … [Read more...]
Is America’s Moment of Unity Fleeting?
Despite a brief moment of national unity following the terrible massacre in Las Vegas, Pat Buchanan questions whether or not the country can hold onto that for very long. Pat says that with a focus on identity issues like "race, religion, ethnicity, culture, history and politics," America is being pulled apart. He writes: We Americans may celebrate our multiracial, multiethnic, multilingual, multicultural diversity as our greatest attribute. But the acrimony and the divisions among us seem greater than ever before in our lifetimes. Blacks, Hispanics, feminists, Native Americans, LGBT—all … [Read more...]
Who Wins from a Corporate Tax Cut?
Writing for the Cato Institute where he holds the R. Evan Scharf Chair for the Public Understanding of Economics, Ryan Bourne explains that there will be many winners if corporate tax rates are cut. Shareholders, employees and consumers will share the spoils, but the proportion of the benefit each group receives is harder to predict. He writes: Cutting the corporate income-tax rate seems a rare area of consensus for Republican lawmakers considering tax reform, which is good news for working Americans. Despite opponents’ attempts to suggest otherwise, there is reason to be confident that … [Read more...]
