Shiffrin Brings It Home with World Cup Win at Killington

You have read about the amazing career of competitive skier, Mikaela Shiffrin. Last time she appeared on YourSurvivalGuy.com, she had notched her 87th World Cup win. It was already safe to put Shiffrin in the GOAT category of athletes near Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, and Michael Phelps. No one has ever dominated skiing the way Shiffrin has. Now, she’s hit another milestone by winning her ninetieth World Cup gold, and this time at her home slope in Killington, VT where she trained in high school at Burke Mountain Academy. Ella Boyd reports at Powder.com:

28-year-old professional alpine racer Mikaela Shiffrin is an inspiration to young ski racers everywhere, male and female.

Now, the “princess of slalom”, as I once heard her called by a race commentator when I was still in gradeschool, has yet another win to add to the long list.

Shiffrin won her 90th World Cup victory at the Alpine Ski World Cup in Killington, Vermont, over the holiday weekend, beating Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by .33 seconds.

Mikaela attended school in Vermont at Burke Mountain Academy, so this win was special as she was competing on home snow. Technically, Mikaela is from Colorado, but us East Coasters will claim her!

It is also special because Mikaela was suffering from a bone bruise on her left tibial plateau due to a training crash last month, and had told reporters prior to the race that “to be perfectly honest, I am not sure that my skiing is in a position where I will win.”

Not only did she win, she took her 90th World Cup win, and her 55th win for Slalom, an absolutely astonishing number. Mikaela has the most World Cup wins of any alpine skier in history and is considered by many to quite literally be the GOAT, or the greatest of all time.
