Across America, people are hitting their local gun shops for ammo and firearms. In Florida, background checks for gun purchases have soared. Gabrielle Calise and Langston Taylor report for the Tampa Bay Times: Toilet paper and hand sanitizer aren’t the only things Floridians are stocking up during the coronavirus pandemic. People across the state are rushing to buy more guns. At Bill Jackson’s Shop For Adventure in Pinellas Park, salespeople worked through lunch Monday, selling ammunition, handguns and shotguns. “Just about everybody buying is concerned about security and they don’t … [Read more...]
Americans Buying Guns: Prepping for Life in Quarantine
Many Americans are frantically buying household products, food, and guns in the face of potential quarantines. Deborah Villalon reports for KTVU Fox 2 that people are afraid of a breakdown in essential services, like policing. Arming themselves is a precaution against looting and violence in the face of police shortages. She reports: Also seeing a big surge: Gun dealers. "I've sold 12 handguns in two hours," said Gabriel Vaughn, owner of the Sportman's Arms in Petaluma, laying the guns out on his store counter. Purchases during the past week are five times normal, and ammunition … [Read more...]
Second Amendment Supporters Cannot Vote for Joe Biden
Second Amendment supporters already know Mike Bloomberg is their worst nightmare. He's funded nearly every effort to take their guns away in the past decade. But, gun owners have other threats on the Democrats' primary debate stage, and one of the biggest is Joe Biden. Take a look at some of Joe Biden's greatest "accomplishments" listed on his On The Issues profile: I beat the NRA twice: AR-15s & high-capacity magazines I'm the only one on this stage who has taken on the NRA and beat them twice. We were able to get assault weapons off the streets for 10 years. The way to deal with … [Read more...]
Good Guys with Guns fighting for the Second Amendment in Texas
In Texas, three men who have endured violence from men wielding firearms are running for office. Rather than running to limit Americans' rights to own and carry firearms though, these candidates are fighting for the Second Amendment rights of their constituents. Elizabeth Findell reports in the WSJ: Stephen Willeford was widely hailed by supporters of the Second Amendment as the model “good guy with a gun” in 2017, when he grabbed an AR-15 rifle and pursued and shot at a gunman killing churchgoers in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Two and a half years later, the gregarious plumber has embraced … [Read more...]
SHOT Show’s Massive Crowds Swell with Women Shooters
Madeline Osburn traveled to SHOT Show in Las Vegas to report on the firearm industry's biggest event of the year. In her report for The Federalist, she takes some time to detail the products that "stuck out to [her], as a novice female shooter." Women are the fastest-growing segment of firearms owners. They are passionate about self-defense and enjoy the sport. The growing number of female gun owners could even have an effect on the election as these new gun owners vote for politicians who respect their rights. Osburn writes: More than 65,000 people gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada this … [Read more...]
The Bloomberg-led Anti-Gun Movement Could Backfire at the Polls
Led by billionaire gun controller, Mayor "Mini" Mike Bloomberg, and Governor Ralph "Blackface" Northam (VA), Democrats are bent on taking away Americans' right to bear arms. The feeling among Democrats was best encapsulated by presidential candidate Congressman Beto O'Rourke when he told a debate audience, "Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15, your AK-47." The reason to believe this tactic may backfire on Democrats is that the suburban female demographic they're relying on to win in 2020 is the same demographic that has been driving increases in the sales of guns and firearms training … [Read more...]
MS-13 in Northern Virginia
In the Washington Examiner, Anna Giaritelli reports the horror that Salvadoran refugees face, leaving their home country to escape the terrors of MS-13, only to find the gang active right here in the United States. Giaritelli details the gang's activities in Northern Virginia, but MS-13 has rooted itself in communities all across America. She writes: As of late 2019, MS-13 has approximately 3,000 members, on par with recent years' figures, according to two officials. Jay Lanham, executive director of the task force, named MS-13 “by far the largest gang in Northern Virginia,” adding, “Due to … [Read more...]
Tacoma Politicians Use Loophole to Target Gun Owners
In October I told you about an attempt by politicians in Tacoma, Washington to use a loophole to get around state law that prevents them from creating gun control laws by using the city tax code to target gun owners and gun shop owners. The measure was momentarily thwarted by amendments, but ultimately passed on November 12, and will take effect July 1, 2020. The tax will add $25 to the price of firearms sold within the city limits, and a 2-cent tax per round of .22 caliber ammo (and smaller calibers), and a 5-cent tax per round on larger calibers. You can buy some brands of .22LR online … [Read more...]
Anti-Gun Politicians Target Small Gun Shops With New Tactic
There's a new tactic being used by anti-gun politicians that takes direct aim at small gun shops by imposing heavy taxes on new gun purchases. These new taxes are being levied at the city level, and that leaves small shops with a terrible choice, pack up and move out of town, or close up shop. Zusha Elinson reports in The Wall Street Journal: Tacoma, Wash., could soon become one of a handful of U.S. cities to levy high taxes on gun sales, opening a new front in the battle over how much power local governments have to regulate firearms. Washington and 44 other states ban cities and towns … [Read more...]
In Mexico, Gun Control Kills
Americans questioning whether or not national gun control is an appropriate course to take for fighting crime have the ability to peer in on an experiment that has tried just that. Just below America's southern border lies a laboratory that has been testing some of the toughest gun control laws in the world. Despite those tough controls, in Mexico, violence is rampant. In the Wall Street Journal, John R. Lott, Jr., author of More Guns Less Crime, The War on Guns, and The Bias Against Guns, explains what can be learned from the situation in Mexico. He writes: Another month, another … [Read more...]
