After announcing that Florida has become the nation's 26th state to offer residents a permitless carry option for firearms, a reader emailed me to mention that Nebraska could soon become the 27th. Mike Peterson reports for KMA Land: Nebraska State Senator Julie Slama is hailing what she calls "commonsense, Second Amendment" legislation on firearms. Late last week, the Nebraska Legislature placed LB 77 up for final debate. Introduced by State Senator Tom Brewer, the bill would allow the carrying of concealed handguns without a permit, change provisions relating to concealed weapons, and … [Read more...]
Florida Joins 25 States with Permitless Carry
Governor Ron DeSantis told voters he would support permitless carry in Florida in this legislative session, and as usual, he delivered. Florida has become the 26th state to protect residents' Second Amendment rights by legalizing permitless carry. Fox News's Emma Colton reports: The U.S. now has a majority of states with constitutional carry laws on the books after Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law Monday that eliminates the requirement for an individual to obtain a permit to carry a concealed firearm. "The NRA applauds Florida for becoming the 26th state to adopt … [Read more...]
Bad Guys Have Guns, Targets Must be Hardened
Bad guys will get their guns, and politicians will continue to create soft targets with anti-gun legislation. Your Survival Guy has trained for years at Sig Sauer Academy. Get your guns and your training now. A smart take from Don Jr. here, helped a lot by Cliff Sims, who was Special Assistant to the President and Director of White House Message Strategy, and later Deputy Director of National Intelligence in the Trump White House. They write in The Federalist: As with so many similar tragedies, the cowardly Covenant School shooter chose a soft target, shooting through the school’s locked … [Read more...]
When Will Florida Join the Permitless Carry States?
You have watched over the last few years as many American states have adopted permitless carry and constitutional carry laws. But many people are anticipating the addition of Florida to that list. Governor Ron DeSantis has encouraged the state's Republican-controlled legislature to send him a bill allowing permitless carry in the state, and it looks like that will happen soon. Here's an explanation of the current legislation being proposed, as reported by Brianna Andrews for News 4, in Jacksonville (abridged): The Florida legislative session officially starts on Tuesday, and one proposed … [Read more...]
Warning: Overnight Law-Abiding Citizens Are Now Felons and More…
As I wrote to you yesterday, big government is coming after you. Today, law abiding Rhode Islanders who own a gun with a magazine that can hold more than ten rounds are felons. Wait a second. What just happened? Last June, RI’s General Assembly passed a law banning all magazines holding more than ten rounds. The governor signed it into law. There was a six month grace period to turn in the “illegal” mags to local law enforcement (which, by the way, also makes you a target because they’re keeping records of those who turn them in, in case the law is overturned and you want them back). The … [Read more...]
Obama Nominated Judge Denies Rhode Islanders Second Amendment Rights
Last year, Rhode Island legislators passed a number of gun control measures, including a ban on what they described as "high capacity magazines." That included any magazine that held over ten rounds. Rhode Island gun owners sued the state to prevent the implementation of the law, and now one man, U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell Jr. (who was nominated to his position by Barack Obama after being recommended for the post by RI Senator Jack Reed), has denied Rhode Islanders their constitutional rights. When bad laws are challenged, your constitutional rights can be subverted by a … [Read more...]
Is Maryland Next in Line for New Draconian Gun Laws?
Maryland legislators want to join other states like New York and New Jersey in the effort to severely restrict where concealed carry licensees can carry their firearms in a cynical response to the Supreme Court's nullification of their "may issue" permitting systems. David Collins reports for WBALTV, writing: A series of gun control proposals are before the General Assembly this year, including a unique approach to address ghost guns. Senate President Bill Ferguson, D-District 46, said he considers public safety a priority. "It is a top primary concern for us. It has been, it will … [Read more...]
The Creeping Assault on Gun Owners’ Rights
Radical gun control activists, both in and out of government, are nothing if not persistent. After being soundly beaten time and time again in front of the Supreme Court, they continue to imagine new ways to hamper Americans' ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights. The city of San Jose has found a novel way to make the lives of law-abiding gun owners miserable. Zusha Elinson reports in The Wall Street Journal: Dave Truslow, a San Jose, Calif., tech-industry retiree and firearms instructor, recently started storing his collection of more than 100 guns out of town because he wanted … [Read more...]
GUN BAN: Illinois Empowers Its Criminals
Illinois just became less safe as the state’s legislators signed House Bill 5471 into law yesterday. From the NRA: House Bill 5471 bans many semi-automatic firearms that law-abiding citizens commonly own for self-defense, competition, and recreation, as well as certain spare parts for them, bans handgun magazines that can hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition, long gun magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition, and “combination[s] of parts” from which such magazines can be assembled, bans .50 BMG caliber firearms and ammunition, and expands the duration of the state's “red … [Read more...]
New Jersey Attacks Gun Rights
New Jersey already has some of the nation's strictest gun laws, but that's not enough for Governor Phil Murphy. He wants to harass gun owners with layers of regulations that will make exercising their rights nearly unbearable. The Wall Street Journal's Editorial Board writes: Politicians these days don’t have the respect they once did for the Bill of Rights, and some are defying courts that enforce those rights. That’s the story in New Jersey, where last week Gov. Phil Murphy signed a new law that makes getting a gun carry permit more difficult and expensive and sharply limits the public … [Read more...]
