For the first time in a decade last year, West Virginia had a net inflow of residents. People are moving to West Virginia, and it's most likely a response to the state's efforts to stop the woke agenda, to promote school choice, and to protect the Second Amendment. What could really drive more businesses to the state is the upcoming planned tax rate reduction. The Wall Street Journal reports: West Virginia lawmakers want their state to become a destination for people and investment, and GOP Gov. Jim Justice has proposed a major tax cut to help. But he’s going to have to overcome misguided … [Read more...]
Road Rage: Your 2A Freedoms Under Assault in Rhode Island
Your freedom is under assault in Rhode Island. Last year the state passed three anti-gun laws, including the ban on large capacity magazines—ones holding more than ten rounds. The law will not reduce gun violence, nor will it prevent mass shootings. Bad guys, deranged guys, looking to do harm, will break the law and get their high-capacity mags. Law abiding citizens who own these magazines have become felons overnight because the grace period expired in December. Now they can face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $5,000—for doing nothing. Your government at work for you. … [Read more...]
America’s Priciest Neighborhoods Now in Florida
You have been reading the stories of Americans moving like refugees to get away from the crime, regulations, and taxes of the Escape States like New York and New Jersey (both scored bottom five in my recently released 2023 Super States ranking). Now, Zillow data compiled by Bloomberg journalists shows that Florida has become the prime destination for America's wealthy freedom seekers. Nine of the top twelve priciest neighborhoods are in Florida, with the top neighborhood, Miami Beach's Star Island, far ahead of any other, with a typical home selling for $40 million. Bloomberg reports: Miami’s … [Read more...]

Why Don’t These Mayors Seem to Care?
With America’s cities suffering from the worst crime, homelessness, and drug addiction in years, it begs the question, why don’t the mayors seem to care? In New York City, Eric Adams seems to spend more time at nightclubs with celebrity friends than worrying about the city’s problems. In San Francisco, London Breed is desperately trying to explain why her “non-profit” received city funds when it wasn’t allowed to. And in Chicago, Lori Lightfoot is dancing in the streets while ignoring the city’s homicide epidemic. Cockburn writes at Spectator World: Cockburn found himself grimacing over his … [Read more...]
NYC Bleeding Revenue as Wealthiest Flee the City
Many of New York City's wealthiest residents are leaving, and they're taking a substantial portion of the 66% of the city's tax receipts they pay with them. Instead, they're heading to states where politicians respect their money. Places like Texas and Florida. Jing Pan reports in MoneyWise: Haven’t you heard? New York is so 2018. At least, that’s the case for the super wealthy. Between 2019 and 2020, the number of New Yorkers earning between $150,000 and $750,000 fell by nearly 6%, according to the New York City Independent Budget Office. Moreover, the number of real high earners — … [Read more...]
Democrats Want Your Money and Your Freedoms
To all my freedom-loving customers in New Jersey, the fight for your Second Amendment rights is taking shape. The Wall Street Journal's editorial staff explains: Massive resistance used to be a phrase associated with Southern opposition to the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education ruling on racial integration. These days it describes how progressive institutions resist the Supreme Court’s rulings on guns, race and regulation. In June the High Court ruled that the ability to carry a firearm outside the home is fundamental to the Second Amendment. New Jersey politicians responded by … [Read more...]
Red State Murder Rates Driven by Their Blue Cities
In The Wall Street Journal, James Freeman takes apart recent insinuations in Washington Post reporting that murder rates are rising in red states by citing the Post's own reporting on the Democrat-run cities where the crime increases are actually occurring. He writes: Democrats who led the way in demonizing police in 2020 may be relieved that the political reckoning in 2022 involved only the loss of their majority in the U.S. House. But the Washington Post publishes a grim reminder that while the midterm elections may be over, Americans are still bearing the tragic consequences of a … [Read more...]
Texas Economy Roars with Record Jobs
In Governor Greg Abbott's state of Texas, total jobs hit a new all-time high in October by adding 49,500 new positions. Bethany Blankley reports for the Washington Examiner: Texas in October again broke an all-time record for job gains. Texas also had the fastest annual jobs growth rate from October 2021 to October 2022, according to new data reported by the Texas Workforce Commission. For the 12th consecutive month, Texas broke its all-time record for total jobs. The state's employers added 49,500 nonfarm jobs last month. “Texas continues to create jobs and set historic employment … [Read more...]
What’s That Sound Coming from New England?
The big takeaway from the election in New England? That sound you hear. It’s the high-pitched sound of private jets and the roar of U-Haul trucks heading for the border—Florida, Texas, and New Hampshire. Money goes where it’s well respected. Here’s anecdotal evidence. When Massachusetts runs a tax surplus, the teachers’ unions get a millionaire’s tax passed to secure salary (and dues) increases. This isn’t about kids. You’re joking, right? It’s an embarrassment. Action Line: Red states are getting redder, and taxes are pushing successful Massachusetts residents into finding greener … [Read more...]
