You know, I learn a lot from my clients. When we check in, I’m talking to some of the best and brightest people in the country, and probably the hardest workers in the world. The small business owners and professionals I work with have honed their skills and work ethic through years of perseverance and effort.
They’ve also saved til it hurt, and put their future plans ahead of present-day frivolities. They’ve accumulated wealth because they’re the best in their fields. Thomas Stanley, author of The Millionaire Next Door, explained that it’s not what people own, but what they achieve that matters. He wrote:
I am not impressed with what people own. But I’m impressed with what they achieve. I’m proud to be a physician. Always strive to be the best in your field…. Don’t chase money. If you are the best in your field, money will find you.
Action Line: The trait all of my clients share is that they aren’t waiting on the sidelines for life to dictate the terms of their retirement.
