My friend Gene Healy from the Cato Institute calls Laurence Tribe the "dean of con-law [constitutional law] professors," but can't understand Tribe's fascination with impeaching President Trump. Tribe, who teaches at Harvard, typically takes a more balanced approach to the law. In 2015 he was excoriating the EPA's greenhouse gas emissions plan in front of Congress. But now he has spent months calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump. Healy writes: Former labor secretary Robert Reich says we should impeach Trump for “abridging the freedom of the press” by … calling the media names and … [Read more...]

Canadian Sniper Makes Record Breaking Kill Shot on ISIS Attacker
As Iraqi forces came under fire from ISIS attackers, a Canadian special forces sniper came to their aid, from over two miles away. The Canadian sniper, along with his spotter, made a record breaking shot that killed one of the attackers and disrupted the assault. The Globe and Mail reports: The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month. "The Canadian Special Operations Command can confirm that a member of Joint Task Force 2 successfully hit … [Read more...]
Advisors Should Help You Reach Investment Goals for Real, Not only in Theory
When investors hire an advisor to help them make money fast, it often turns out that the only person making money is the advisor. Advisors not held to a fiduciary standard are likely to churn clients' portfolios, meaning they'll buy and sell, either chasing performance or generating fees and commissions for themselves by reinvesting the clients' money too often. With a new regulation taking effect from the Department of Labor, advisors traditionally held to the low "suitability standard" will be required to adhere to the more stringent "fiduciary standard" in some client retirement … [Read more...]
What Amazon is Buying from Whole Foods
Imagine walking into your local grocery store where everybody knows your name. That’s what Amazon wants out of this deal with Whole Foods. Gone are the days where an employee stocking shelves will blissfully look the other way as you search for what you need. Imagine the service you get at a five star hotel where you’re treated as a patron—a valued guest. Shopping in the big box stores today, you’re a treated like a pest. The relationship between company and client has never been more valuable. And Jeff Bezos understands this. In Bezos’ world, you will not be a pest. You will be that valued … [Read more...]
Why the Democrat Party will Always Lose on Guns
In a recent conversation with a gun store owner, he told me his customers are about 50-50, Dems-Republicans. He said his Democrat customers love their guns just as much as the Republican ones. So you see the difference between Washington D.C. and your local gun shop. On one hand is the platform of the Pelosi Democrats, vs your friends at the range. Democrats and Republicans can both support the 2nd Amendment. But when it comes to the Democrat leadership in Washington, it’s anti-guns. They don’t trust you. It’s all about big brother knowing best. Darren Lasorte writing in America’s 1st … [Read more...]
