OK, midyear report cards are in, and if you’ve been with me, then you’re smiling. But I have to ask, how much of this feels real to you? Yes, it’s nice to see stocks are up, but aren’t you more interested in knowing you’re going to keep what you’ve made? What you want to concern yourself with moving forward are real returns or, in other words, how much you’re really gaining if inflation eats your savings like a Gypsy moth. What good do higher prices for stocks do if they get cut down by over a third like we’ve already seen three times this century? Your Survival Guy’s battle plan for you … [Read more...]
EVACUATE: San Francisco Residents Can’t Wait to Leave
Between the dangerous crime and rampant homelessness, many San Francisco residents are eager to pack up and leave the city. Betty Yu reports for KPIX: As San Francisco tries to bounce back from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, crime and homelessness now rank among the highest levels of concerns among local residents, many who are contemplating relocating, according to a new poll. The poll was released by the SF Chamber of Commerce and based on feedback from more than 500 San Francisco residents who are registered to vote. It found that more than 40 percent say they plan … [Read more...]
Your Survival Guy’s Super States: #1 Wyoming
When Your Survival Guy was in fourth grade, I had to do a report on one of the 50 states. I chose Wyoming because I thought its square box shape was cool. Turns out, all these years later, I was on to something as Wyoming checks a lot of the boxes that matter to me, and I’m sure you too. Here’s a sample of the items that matter to Your Survival Guy when it comes to picking a "Super State." Does the state restrict liberty by forcing residents to get things like "vaccine passports?" What about protections for the Second Amendment? And is the state treating its residents like a piggy bank? … [Read more...]
Neil Peart’s “Silver Surfer” Car Collection Auction
If you love Rush then you miss Neil Peart. You also know about his love for cars especially his uncle's Red Barchetta. Tobias Carroll reports on the auction of Peart's collection, writing: When Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart died in early 2020, many of the tributes written about him paid homage to his versatility. Peart was capable of astonishing feats behind a drum kit, but he was also responsible for Rush’s heady lyrics — an unexpected but compelling combination. As it turns out, there are still other sides to Peart besides his musical activities; he also had a penchant for collecting … [Read more...]
No Inflation?
The Fed can paper over inflation like shingles on a roof, but the numbers are the numbers. Protect your money accordingly. Try telling new home buyers there's no inflation. Nicole Friedman reports at the WSJ: U.S. home prices surged at their fastest pace ever in April as buyers competing for a limited number of homes on the market pushed the booming housing market to new records. The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index, which measures average home prices in major metropolitan areas across the nation, rose 14.6% in the year that ended in April, up from an 13.3% annual … [Read more...]
DEATH SPIRAL: Crime Soars in Democrats’ #DEFUNDTHEPOLICE Cities
Despite recent attempts by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and other Washington D.C. Democrats to blame Republicans for "defunding the police," Americans are fully aware of which party at City Hall cut the budgets for the boys in blue. In 2020, Democrats running cities across America joined in a political dogpile, setting up what was a completely predictable disaster. They cut budgets for police forces and allowed a surge in crime, unlike anything America has seen in decades. In the latest evidence of just how badly the "defund the police" movement has backfired, a news crew doing … [Read more...]
It’s a Trap: High Fees Hamstring ESG Returns
Investors love the idea of helping the world out with their investing dollars. That has made selling ESG funds easy for the world's largest asset managers. They love pitching their funds as a way to "save the world," while quietly charging high management fees. But according to the Wall Street Journal, investors are beginning to notice something. Despite their desire to save the world, they still want to make money from their investments, and that's not always happening with ESG funds. Cheryl Winokur Munk reports: A notable 47% of respondents in the Schroders 2020 Global Investor Study say … [Read more...]
America’s Scorched Earth: Where Energy Goes to Die
You and I know ESG investing is all about EGO and more fees. Like anything, just follow the money, and the truth unfolds right before your very eyes. You and I have been on top of this theme like no other. You understand the implications for your future will be enormous. It’s why I want you to be on the right side as history unfolds. Take this winter’s disaster in Texas, for example, when temps dipped to arctic levels, and there was no wind but for the frozen exhalations of shivering residents huddled together in the darkness of their homes. It was a third-world country. And this was … [Read more...]
Constitutional Carry in America
In a short span this year, the number of states allowing constitutional, or permitless carry of concealed firearms has increased dramatically. Today there are twenty-one states where permitless carry is either already in place or will be soon. The map below shows those states in green. You'll notice soon that many of the states in green correspond to the highest-ranked states on Your Survival Guy's Super States list. Of course Second Amendment freedom is a big component in my ranking of the states. Action Line: Whether or not you live in a state that has a government committed to … [Read more...]
Pray for Just a Little Patience
In my conversations with you, you're telling me how you're getting settled into your summer groove and how it's not always easy. I hear you. Because when the days are three times longer than nights, there's a lot of anxiety to "get stuff done." And it doesn't get easier with age. When making coffee feels like climbing Everest, or doing the dishes is the last thing you want to do, remember, you're not alone. This is a time of year packed with pressure, and as we get older, it's more difficult to have patience because we like things the way we like them, and things need to be right. Just ask … [Read more...]
