June Rage Gauge: Best Déjeuners in Paris

By Sébastien Jouve @ Adobe Stock

Your Survival Guy was talking with a client yesterday who will be in Paris for a few days this month. He asked if I would recommend a couple of places for a special déjeuner or lunch. Here’s what I emailed him.

“My best lunch recommendations in Paris. Hope you have a great trip!

  • Le Cherche Midi (Italian)

Later, we had a late lunch in the 6th at Le Cherche Midi for some Italian food. The waiter tested our son’s Italian, and as it turns out, he really is going to class. We checked out the Nemrod before heading out to Chez l’Ami Louis for a second time in three nights. Note to self: Maybe spread them further apart next time.
  • Chez L’Ami Louis (a bit of a drive)
SPECIAL REPORT: Your Survival Guy in Paris – Your Survival Guy
By the way, l’Ami Louis does serve lunch. Over the summer, LVMH purchased a majority share in the bistro. LVMH, of course, is owned by billionaire founder Bernard Arnault. His presence in the capital structure will ensure the most controversial bistro in Paris stays that way. He’s stated publicly that he’s not always looking for a return on investment. Some investments are made to preserve what makes Paris, Paris.

Which brings me to this month’s RAGE Gauge, and as expected, it’s not pretty, but it’s not terrible either. For retired and soon-to-be-retired investors, you can sink your teeth into some of these yields. You can also create a nice group of stocks that pay an above-average dividend and have a history of dividend increases. That’s how you keep your purchasing power to afford Paris.

Overall satisfaction with the country is positive. Americans are fairly optimistic. Dissatisfaction is low, and after dropping to 52.2 for two months, the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment survey bounced back to 60.5.

Gold continues its climb toward the atmosphere. Governments and individuals are buying.

Treasuries are stable, despite the turmoil in the world.

Oil prices have responded more to the turmoil in the Middle East.

I’m holding my RAGE Gauge steady at an elevated level. For those who have been preparing for retirement with a strong plan and eyes wide open, they should remain on guard, but not forget to enjoy life. The world can be a daunting place, but if you prior plan, save ‘til it hurts, and work for as long as you can, you can have the retirement you deserve.

Bon appétit!
