What do you do if you’re in the line of fire of a Category 5 strike? First you pray. And then you hope you can rise to your training to protect your family and to be of assistance to others in need.
You want to be the one that has prepared as much as possible for such events so you can be calm when others cannot.
A great place to start is to simply observe your vulnerabilities. Have you cut back trees that are hanging near your house? Has your neighbor cut back their trees that are hanging over a power transformer in your yard? Take it from me, it can get ugly, fast.
What’s Your Exit Plan?
Do you have an exit plan? If so what is it? No one can know what works best for your family better than you.
And you can’t predict how a disaster will affect you. I’ve talked to several people in Houston and it’s literally a difference of night and day from one neighborhood to another. Some are flooded out big time and others are dry. The pictures we all have seen are unbelievable.
Thinking ahead is really all one can do. Like these folks did to save their home.
Avoid a Nightmare
Now Irma is on Florida’s doorstep and the nightmares we’re hearing about the traffic from Key West to Orlando and beyond is scary. Mandatory evacuations aren’t going solve a gas shortage. And it’s only the beginning.
How this all unfolds is hardly predictable, but one thing we all can learn is that any little thing we can do to improve our preparedness puts us one step closer to coming out alive and hopefully in a position to help others.
