The Democratic Party’s undemocratically selected presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, has now chosen her running mate. Harris picked the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, to join her in the campaign for the White House. Walz is bad for America for a number of reasons, but his support for anti-gun laws in Minnesota gives gun owners a taste of what they could expect from a Harris/Walz administration. The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus responded to Walz’s signing into law of new anti-gun measures last year that imposed universal background checks and anti-due process red flag laws on Minnesotans, writing:
“It is extremely disappointing that the Governor has signed these provisions into law without so much as a stand-alone floor vote in the Senate,” said Bryan Strawser, Chairman of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus. “If these measures were truly as popular as the Governor claims, there would be no need to bury these provisions in an omnibus bill. The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus will be closely monitoring the implementation of these laws, and, in conjunction with our national partners, we stand ready to take possible legal action.”
“The impact of these laws will only be felt by peaceable gun owners, who are being imposed with unreasonable barriers to the free exercise of a Constitutionally protected right,” added Rob Doar, Senior VP of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus. “Regulating peaceful conduct that is common among gun owners will do nothing to impact violent crime. Once again, it is law-abiding gun owners in the government’s sights, not resources and strategies to address the mental health crisis or criminal misuse of guns.”
“These two proposals are likely only the beginning, ” added Strawser. “At the Governor’s side today is Gabby Giffords, who recently exposed her organization’s full agenda when she said, ‘No more guns. Gone.’ ”
“Peaceable gun owners across Minnesota should be alarmed about the extent of the DFL trifecta’s anti-gun agenda, ” added Doar. “The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus will continue working to protect and expand Minnesotans’ Second Amendment rights as we did at the legislature this session by defeating bans on commonly owned magazines and firearms – and in court where we successfully sued to overturn unconstitutional infringements that prevented young adults from exercising their Second Amendment rights.”
