Edelman to Brady: Let’s Win this for Your Mom

Perhaps the most poignant story coming out of the Super Bowl was Tom Brady’s dedication of the game to his cancer stricken mom. A Mic’d Up Julian Edelman focused on Brady’s mom to get himself and the QB psyched up when things looked bad for the Patriots in Super Bowl LI. Here WEEI lists some highlights from the game.

— Before the second half, Josh McDaniels did a great job speaking to the running backs, giving off the vibe he believed they could come back.

“Do you believe we’re going to win? I do, too,” McDaniels said. “Let’s just play our best half. I don’t want anyone to do anything you can’t do. Don’t try to make it all up in one play. Just play each play by itself.”

— Also, Brady and Edelman had a moment on the sidelines before the third quarter.

“Let’s go, baby. It’s going to be one hell of a story,” Edelman said.

“Hell yeah,” Brady responded.

— After Julio Jones’ spectacular catch late in the fourth, LeGarrette Blount was in awe.

“That’s an amazing catch,” he said. “Every game we play in it’s always — every Super Bowl we play in — we’ve only played in two — but there’s always that one [expletive] catch, you know what I’m saying?”

— When Matt Ryan completed a pass on third down to get back into field goal range, there was a flag for a holding penalty taking them out of it. Ryan asked Jake Matthews if he committed the penalty (which he did).

“What the [expletive]. Did you hold?” he asked.

— Before the overtime drive, Edelman had a message for Brady.

“Let’s win this thing. For your mom. For your mom, bro,” he said.

— During the celebration on the field immediately after James White’s touchdown, Edelman shared his love for Brady.

“What did I say at halftime? ‘It’s gonna be a helluva story.’ I love you, bro.” he said.

— Edelman and Bill Belichick also shared a moment on the field during the celebration.

“It’s going to be one helluva story,” Edelman said.

“Oh my god, they counted us out 20 times,” Belichick responded.

“Gotta believe, coach,” Edelman said.

“Oh, hell yeah,” Belichick said.
