You know by now that Americans are rushing to escape the city. They’re looking for a better America where they can raise their children, build their businesses, and retire in peace. The Wall Street Journal editorial board listed headlines from last week. Read them below and ask yourself, is it any wonder Americans can’t wait to get away?
July 21: “Authorities found the charred body of a man in the wreckage of a south Minneapolis pawnshop, nearly two months after the building was torched in the rioting that followed George Floyd’s death.”
July 24: “A public hearing Tuesday night was dominated by demands to allow Minneapolis residents to vote on a proposal that could end the city’s Police Department.”
July 25: “Minneapolis is poised to cut $1.5 million from the city’s Police Department—and elected officials are promising more substantial changes in the coming months.”
July 25: “At least 275 people have been victims of gunfire in Minneapolis so far this year, eclipsing the entire annual totals of all but two of the past 10 years.”
July 25: “Minneapolis residents in some areas still recovering from rioting and unrest are forming community watch and security groups, some bearing firearms, to fight a surge of crime.”
July 27: “Minneapolis police are looking for suspects they say are behind a weekslong spree of armed carjackings and robberies across the city, including one episode Sunday in which a father was dragged a short distance as he tried to stop a man from stealing his vehicle with his wife and child inside.”
The latest celebrity to publicly eschew the city is Joe Rogan.
“I’m outta here.” Those were the words Rogan told his recent guest Joe De Sena. “Here” meant California, where Rogan has lived since 2003.
Where is Rogan moving? Texas.
Rogan’s criteria for choosing his destination:
- Center of the country
- Easier to travel to both coasts
- A little more freedom
- An uncrowded area
Implied in his point “a little more freedom” is the lower–read: zero–income tax rate in Texas. Rogan recently signed a mega-deal to move his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, to Spotify. The deal is worth $100 million, and moving to Texas could reportedly save Rogan $13 million in income taxes.
It’s no wonder Rogan, like many Americans, is looking for a better America.
Americans are concerned about rising crime in big cities. The Hill’s Julia Machester reports:
A majority of Americans say they are concerned about rising crime in U.S. cities, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill on Monday.
Seventy-seven percent of respondents say they are concerned that crime is rising in the nation’s cities, while 46 percent of respondents said they were concerned about rising crime in their own communities.
“At the same time they see an increase of violence and crime and are concerned that prosecutors are not prosecuting the crimes — they blame the protests and the high unemployment when asked what is responsible for the spike in violence,” said Harvard CAPS/Harris polling director Mark Penn. “They also single out social media for being used to coordinate violence and in their view not doing much to curb it.”
In 25 large cities analyzed by the New York Times, murder rates are up 16.1% compared to 2019.
Fear of violent crime has spurred Americans to buy firearms in record numbers. They are getting their guns and their training before it’s too late.
Every family should own at least one shotgun. After prosecutors set a dangerous precedent by going after the McCloskeys, the clock is ticking. You must protect your family.
With high crime in big cities, and blue state governors punishing the working class with severe lockdowns, now is the time to consider a move to a right to work state with low taxes and a pro-business government.
At a minimum, escape the city, you’re going to like what you see.
