This Is Harris’s Favorite Lie

You know Americans have been devastated by the Bidenflation that has tormented them since the current resident of the White House moved in. Along with Biden came Harris’s tie-breaking votes in the Senate, where she rubber-stamped her party’s inflationary agenda. In The Wall Street Journal, James Freeman calls out both Harris and Biden for repeating a lie that seems to have become their favorite—that somehow inflation had begun before their time in office. Freeman writes:

New York Times reporters are responding to Vice President Kamala Harris’s Wednesday speech on the economy. One dispatch in particular from Timesman Jim Tankersley is a howler:

Inflation and the high cost of necessities like food and housing are Harris’s biggest economic vulnerabilities with voters. She started the speech by trying to flip that on its head a bit — acknowledging that the cost of living is too high, but saying those costs rose well before the pandemic. Translation: They rose before Biden and I took office.

Translation: Vice President Harris is telling one of the president’s favorite falsehoods and media folk seem inclined to let her get away with it.

Perhaps trying to pretend that the Biden-Harris inflation surge never happened is easier than trying to pretend that she never cast tie-breaking Senate votes for the spending binge that created it.

Action Line: A brief look at the chart below can dispel anyone’s confusion about what happened and when. There was a brief period of rapid inflation of food and beverages surrounding the outbreak of Covid in 2020, and then that subsided. Only after Biden/Harris took control of the government did inflation begin to accelerate rapidly. Perhaps not coincidentally, it accelerated fastest in the first two years of Biden’s term, which corresponds to the time period Democrats controlled the House of Representatives, where spending bills are generated.
