OK, about that satellite phone or even a prepaid one (good to have) you have tucked away. Pop quiz: Tell me the phone numbers of your important contacts. No cheating. No looking through your address book. It’s not easy is it? Sort of like remembering what you did over the weekend. Here’s a quick fix: Write all your important contact numbers down on a business card or piece of paper and store it with your emergency phone. Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone you don’t know their number by heart.
Here’s the deal. In times of trouble, stuff happens fast and you don’t have time to think. Adrenaline can do that to you. That’s why it’s easier to just have information at your fingertips and not have to rely on your “tech” to pull up a phone number for you.
Also, store your emergency phone in the same place like you do your car keys (I hope). You don’t want to be in a situation where you can’t find your phone. It’s never a good idea to be saying to yourself: “I know it’s around here somewhere.”
And don’t forget to keep them charged. It’s like making sure your vehicles have gas and are ready to go at all times. It shouldn’t be a game to see how low the fuel gauge can get. Not funny. I don’t like white knuckling the steering wheel hoping I don’t run out of gas.
A.L. The less you have to think about, the better. There’s a lot of simple steps you need to take to be prepared and stay that way. It’s a constant battle like finding out who was the last one to drive the car.
