Happy Friday from Your Survival Guy. This is boat show weekend in Newport. If you’re in the market for a boat, come on down or plan on it for next year. I recommend coming to town on Thursday night, seeing the boats Friday/Saturday or Sunday, and making time to see Your Survival Guy before or after. For your favorite wine while you’re in town, stop by Newport Wine Cellar & Gourmet. Owner Maria Chiancola explains what’s going on there this September in her monthly Wine Notes. She writes:
The Newport Mansions are celebrating wine this weekend with their annual Food & Wine Festival. Bravo to The Preservation Society of Newport County for getting everyone excited to enjoy wine, to learn more about it, and to share in the cohesive quality of this magical beverage. The festival is nearly entirely sold out! This is just another example of how wine brings people from all over together.
I was out to dinner and overheard a table of Italians talking about the festival and their wines. They were excited to share their wines with the people attending their seminar this weekend. I found their excitement contagious, which lead to a conversation with a friend, who coincidentally was enjoying her dinner at the bar. We talked about the way that wine can encourage connection between friends and family but also between complete strangers. In a recent article in The Sun, Edward Slingerland, scholar, philosopher, and writer, explains that wine has a two fold positive effect on us; it is expansive and relaxing. In doing those two things, drinking can inspire creativity and encourage trust—that sounds like a recipe for falling in love, following a dream, or finding the courage to change the world. I am in favor of all of those activities.
In an effort to contribute to creativity and trust, we will have wines open for tasting all weekend. In honor of the Italians that inspired me earlier, we will begin with some Italian wine tomorrow. On Saturday, we will shift to France. I am feeling particularly free spirited, so I will let the moment choose the wines, but I will select a few off the beaten path varietals to provide a chance to learn something new. We will add a tasting on Sunday, bringing it home with some beautiful American wines to cap off the weekend! Planned spontaneity will commence at 2pm Friday, and I hope you will join me.
Weekend Tasting 2-6pm Friday, Saturday & Sunday!
Follow us on Instagram, we will announce the wines for our tastings at noon @newportwinenchz 🍷
Look forward to seeing you this weekend,
cheers, Maria
P.S. Grand Banks will be at the boat show. You can check out their new flagship GB85 in the video below. Pretty sweet.
September 15 – September 18, 2022
NEWPORT INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW 2022
Come on board the boat that started an evolution
The launch of the GB60 marked the moment when our history of luxury and style was reimagined with state-of-the-art V-Warp technology – a breakthrough combination of hull form, exotic materials and build philosophy.
The result is a long-distance cruiser that is the most fuel efficient in its class. In fact, the GB60 uses about half the fuel of any motor yacht of a comparable size.
Her success has changed the way Grand Banks designs and builds our motor yachts and has led to development of a range that now includes the GB54 and our magnificent flagship, the GB85.
Come on board at this year’s Newport Boat Show, and we’ll be proud to show you this rare combination of luxury and efficiency.
Also at the show this year, we are delighted to unveil Eastbay Yachts’ All New Eastbay 60, making her world debut.
