“So much for that Blue Wave coming in November,” a friend pointed out to me this week. That could simply be our wishful thinking.
But, just as President Obama was America’s #1 gun salesman, it turns out Democrats on the Judiciary Committee and Christine Blasey Ford are the #1 salesmen for a Conservative America.
Let’s get to the vote to confirm Kavanaugh so the grandstanding by Senate Democrats can continue, inspiring yet another GOP midterm rally. You really can’t make up a better scenario.
At The Federalist, Ellie Bufkin explains in, “Conservative Women Will Make Democrats Pay for Kavanaugh in November”:
Since the day Brett Kavanaugh was named as President Trump’s nominee to serve on The Supreme Court, women on the left have been angry. Now women on the right are even angrier. The media circus surrounding the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh have produced no evidence that he is, or ever was, the man that Democrats and the media have portrayed him to be. Many conservative women see an eminently qualified Supreme Court nominee standing his ground, while duly elected members of the Senate attempt to destroy his life and prevent him from serving on the nation’s highest court. These women are furious about the behavior of the left, and they don’t intend to stand for it.
With Senate races tightening all over the country as Election Day approaches, Republican women have shown tremendous fortification through the Kavanaugh hearings and allegations. In The Marist Poll released Wednesday, 83 percent of Republican women claim that the midterm elections are “very important,” a 12 percent increase from the same poll conducted in July. The treatment of Kavanaugh has lit a fire in the belly of conservative women. Enthusiasm among Democratic women actually fell two points — from 81 percent to 79 percent — over the same period.
You even have anti-Trump, New York Times columnist Bret Stephens writing “For Once, I’m Grateful for Trump: In the president, one big bully stands up to others.”
For the first time since Donald Trump entered the political fray, I find myself grateful that he’s in it. I’m reluctant to admit it and astonished to say it, especially since the president mocked Christine Blasey Ford in his ugly and gratuitous way at a rally on Tuesday. Perhaps it’s worth unpacking this admission for those who might be equally astonished to read it.
I’m grateful because Trump has not backed down in the face of the slipperiness, hypocrisy and dangerous standard-setting deployed by opponents of Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. I’m grateful because ferocious and even crass obstinacy has its uses in life, and never more so than in the face of sly moral bullying. I’m grateful because he’s a big fat hammer fending off a razor-sharp dagger.
