Mamdani Springs the Trap on Landlords

New York City landlords are waking up to a nightmare scenario. Mayor Zohran Mamdani explained in a recent speech that he plans to “remove negligent owners and property owners” from their buildings, i.e., steal their property, and give it to “community land trusts, non-profits, or even the tenants themselves.”

But this is a trap New York City set for landlords in years before; Mamdani is just the first mayor to spring it on them. By stifling new development and controlling rents, among other anti-landlord actions, NYC has made it unprofitable to take good care of buildings, and so they have become dilapidated.

Now, in perfect socialist form, Mamdani wants to solve one government-caused problem with a government solution. He wants to take private property and redistribute it to his allies.
