There is no greater lifeline for New York City’s poor citizens than the subway system. For a very small fee, New Yorkers without means can quickly and easily travel to their jobs, schools, or homes. Now, Mayor Bill De Blasio, unhappy with citizens who haven’t received a COVID-19 vaccine yet, wants to take that away from them. The lame-duck mayor has proposed that people only be allowed to board the subway, and other Metro Transit Authority vehicles, with a vaccine passport. Summit News reports:
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appears to have called for a vaccine mandate on the subway, meaning that anyone who hasn’t taken the COVID vaccine would be banned from traveling throughout the city.
De Blasio made the call on Twitter, writing “We know vaccine mandates work.”
He added, “New York City is proof of that. Now let’s go even further. I’m urging @GovKathyHochul to institute an MTA vaccine mandate. Let’s do what we can to keep our city, our residents, and our workforce safe.”
We know vaccine mandates work — New York City is proof of that. Now let’s go even further.
I’m urging @GovKathyHochul to institute an MTA vaccine mandate. Let’s do what we can to keep our city, our residents, and our workforce safe.

It would mean that not only would a vaccine mandate be in place to visit gyms, restaurants, cinemas and the like, but also that anyone wanting to go anywhere, including traveling to work would have to show proof of vaccination.
Some suggested that De Blasio meant a mandate for MTA workers, however the tweet clearly does not single out workers.
Many are not impressed with the suggestion:
You are doing everything you can to bring the rioting taking place all over Europe to NYC, aren’t you?…

That’s what you’re worried about? Trains have a worse in time performance than in 2017 when we had a literal state of emergency, bc of 20 min intervals mid rush hour there’s dangerous overcrowding, and you’re worried about a mandate?

The angry responses to De Blasio’s tweet go on and on. Even New Yorkers, living in one of America’s most progressive cities, are tired of the constant COVID haranguing.
