Will San Franciscans Choose Order Over Chaos?

Today in a recall vote, San Franciscans have the opportunity to remove radical DA, Chesa Boudin from office. During his time in office, Boudin has eliminated cash bail, keeping criminals on the street, rather than behind bars. He has stopped prosecuting crimes like urinating in public, soliciting sex, blocking the sidewalk, and other annoyances San Franciscans are now forced to deal with. Boudin has also put fewer criminals in jail.

As most readers can probably guess, Boudin’s easy-on-crime attitude has coincided neatly with a surge in crime in San Francisco. Now voters can choose to recall Boudin, and potentially bring some semblance of peace back to the city. Ron Pragides tweeted on what The Economist called “The Boudin effect.” That’s the plummeting of prosecutions performed by the DA’s office since Boudin was elected.

Homicides and gun crimes rose in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2019, though they have declined in 2022 year-over-year. In 2021, fentanyl deaths surpassed COVID-19 deaths in San Francisco. In January, the San Francisco Police Department announced a 567% increase in hate crimes against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals from nine in 2020 to a staggering 60 in 2021.

“There are lifelong San Franciscans, lifelong Democrats, progressives, liberals, and even those who voted for [Boudin] in 2019 when he ran [who] are not only disappointed in him but who are disgusted by what he turned out to be,” Greenberg explained. “When he ran for office, he said nothing about if he was going to protect or prosecute the drug dealers we have.”

Action Line: The scary part is that Boudin isn’t the only radical woke DA. He’s not the only one protecting criminals instead of citizens.
