Your Survival Guy and family went to the Boston Bruins hockey game this Saturday, and, no, a fight did not break out, but that’s the nature of today’s game, favoring speed and skill. Unfortunately, it was a forgettable game except for some unforgettable stats like the Bs getting only eight shots off through the first two periods and being outplayed in every aspect of the game.
The Capitals Alexander Ovechkin closed it out, making it 3-0 on an empty netter in the third, giving him 57 for his career, the most in the NHL, surpassing Wayne Gretzky. Not a stat I want to participate in, as the Bruins went scoreless for the first-time since January of last season. Another stat, I repeat myself, I do not want to participate in.
Last season, when the Bruins had a record 65 wins, one of their four home losses was to the Capitals. I was there. But hey, this year, I was out for redemption. There’s always next season.
Tonight, team Captain Brad Marchand is set to play his 1,000th game as a Bruin. He’s experienced the rough NHL, and he’s made comments saying how much softer the game is today. For someone who is 5’ 9”, he survived the old NHL playing well above his weight, and it sounds like he misses the old NHL.
But we’re not going back to the old days, that is, until the playoffs start, then anything can and does happen. This is a good team with better-than-good goaltending desperately in need of a catalyst (Patrick Maroon?) to shake some bodies up.
Let’s go.
