California Housing Market Suffering

By Unwind @ Adobe Stock

You know that California is weighing a plan to punish its billionaires for their success by taxing them 5% of their entire wealth. Pile that on top of years of high taxes and heavy regulation, and is it any wonder Southern California faces a homebuying slowdown? Jonathan Lansner reports in the Los Angeles Daily News that the area has seen its second slowest monthly housing market since 2005, with the slowest month in May 2026. Lansner explains why he believes this is happening, writing:

The price is wrong

Why are buyers staying away? The answer is simple.

July’s median price hit $815,000, Southern California’s fourth-highest ever and just 2% below the all-time record.

High prices don’t prove a resilient market, no matter what the industry gurus say. They’re a major problem, and wannabe sellers hopefully know it.
