You know how I feel about technology or algorithms taking over your portfolio. I’m sticking with the four-year-olds. Keep it simple. Sure, Your Survival Guy likes technology, but if I have to get stuff done fast, I write it down on some good ‘ole fashion paper. It’s mobile, it doesn’t need to be charged, and it doesn’t chirp at me when I’m trying to concentrate.
Now then, Your Survival Guy has some experience with technological disasters. Take, for example, my most recent one, where there was black smoke rising from my boat. Turns out, a lightning strike hit the VHF antenna that ended up being a gateway to everything else electronic on the boat. Bad stuff happens fast.
In my conversations with you, you’re telling me the steps you’re taking to secure your situation as winter approaches. I know you snowbirds are laughing at those of us freezing up here, but let’s not forget the security of your summer home in the dead of winter. Nothing replaces having someone looking after your assets, so they don’t become liabilities.
Take our log cabin in New Hampshire, for example. In a recent power outage here in Newport, my WiFi went out along with my security cameras. In thinking about the cabin up north, I’m fortunate to have family and friends up there to put some eyes on it, especially after a storm. I can’t tell you how valuable that is.
Action Line: We’re not talking rocket science here. Having a team you can count on can be a lifesaver. Keep it simple, so you don’t look stupid.
