Rather than turning into a nationalized wave election in favor of Democrats, last night's election was a mixed bag, leaving Republicans somewhat relieved it wasn't worse, and Democrats disappointed they didn't win more seats. Republicans gained multiple seats in the Senate, solidifying their control on the appointment process and over ratification of treaties. Those powers, now unthreatened by wishy-washy GOP senators from more liberal states, will give President Trump the latitude to continue his one-two punch of filling American court seats with constitution supporting judges, and … [Read more...]
Retirement Benefits: They’re not all in Dollars, Part II
You know, not all retirement benefits are in dollars. I received this email last week: “Season ending ‘last and fast’ Pantera run over Togwotee Pass (9700 ft.) with a few of my car guy buddies. Here’s some more pics of the 1972 DeTomaso Pantera recently featured in Hot Rod. Hot Rod's Richard Prince wrote: Some of Marty Quadland’s earliest memories involve sitting in the family’s 1935 Ford cabriolet with both hands tightly gripping the steering wheel as he belched out a four-year-old’s version of a V8 exhaust note. Later on, as a way of dealing with his motion sickness in the … [Read more...]
Maine’s Governor wants to Live in Florida, Here’s Why
The low taxes and warm weather of Florida have enticed millions of retirees to the Sunshine State. Now, Maine's term-limited governor, Paul Le Page has told the Portland Press Herald that he'll be the next Northeasterner to become a snowbird (heading south in the winter and spending summers in the north). When asked about his plans, Le Page answered in a way that many retirees would understand, according the Press Herald he stated: “I’ll tell you very, very simply: I have a house in Florida. I will pay no income tax and the house in Florida’s property taxes are $2,000 less than we were paying … [Read more...]
Vote for Main Street Today
Americans feel better about the economy today than they have in decades. With a pro-business leader and majorities in Congress, jobs are plentiful and wages are rising. As Alfredo Ortiz explains at The Hill, Nancy Pelosi is on record saying that she would like to repeal the very tax reforms that have made the current strong economy possible. Why would Americans vote for that? Instead, vote to support Main Street today. Ortiz writes: Reflecting this strong economy, the stock market is up an incredible 30 percent since Trump was elected, buoying pensions, retirement accounts, and college … [Read more...]
What’s the Best Investment (For Your Vote)
America's economy has been roaring, but with the midterm election tomorrow, the direction of regulation and tax policies could change drastically. Here, according to The Wall Street Journal are the areas with the most at stake in tomorrow's election: TAXES: The Trump administration wants to make permanent new income tax cuts for individuals passed last year, a move that Wall Street analysts say could bolster consumer confidence and lift prospects for retailers, auto makers, tech firms and other consumer-goods companies. But the White House will need Republicans to retain control of … [Read more...]
Nancy Pelosi: The Best Reason to Vote Republican
Allowing Nancy Pelosi and her radical progressive Democrat party leadership team to regain control of the House of Representatives is the last thing Americans want. During just his brief two years as president, Donald Trump has done more to super-charge America's economy than anyone since Ronald Reagan. Since Pelosi entered the House of Representatives in 1987, she has done little aside from corralling the nation's socialists toward their goals, and amassing an estimated $26.4 million fortune. For an understanding of what Americans will be giving up if they vote to empower Nancy Pelosi, … [Read more...]
Survive and Thrive November: Retirement Benefits: They’re not all in Dollars
Dear Reader, You may have noticed stocks are acting a little funny lately. Whether it’s scary October, midterms, or earnings, there’s always something to worry about. I’ll tell you, the phones have been pretty quiet from clients. Many are packing up for Florida, travelling in Paris, or enjoying the outdoors. For example, I received a picture emailed from my client at his fishing cabin in Alaska enjoying some freshly caught crabs, writing: “All retirement benefits are not in dollars. Thanks for the help making this happen. I’m the one holding the pot.” He’s retired. Stays off the grid … [Read more...]
Jobs, Jobs, and More Jobs
On the campaign trail recently President Trump touted a new slogan, Jobs not Mobs, and he has delivered. Today's Employment Situation Report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics detailed October's strong gain of 250,000 jobs. Unemployment remains at 3.7%, matching the lowest rates since 1969. Combined with strong wage increases reported earlier this week, the strong job report has set stock futures rising. You can read the full BLS report below. … [Read more...]
Will Americans Choose Nancy Pelosi over the Highest Wage and Salary Growth in a Decade?
The numbers are in, and Americans are enjoying the highest rate of wage and salary growth in a decade. With an increase of 3.1%, wage and salary growth beat analysts' expectations. That's the fastest growth in 10 years. (You can read the entire BLS report below). American wage growth under the Obama administration was stagnant. With so many Americans unemployed, and so few jobs available, employers had no reason to compete for employees by offering higher wages. That has changed. Unemployment is sitting at 3.7%, the lowest since 1969, and employers must now compete to hire the best … [Read more...]
Americans, Not Putin, Elected Trump, and Here’s Why
With November 6 coming up fast, it's important to remember why Americans elected Donald Trump in the first place. Putting Democrats back in power would serve to reverse all the progress that has been made. I wrote this on July 17, 2018 to remind Americans what they voted for. Daniel McCarthy explains at The Spectator that Donald Trump is not worried about missing liberals' goals on globalization or multiculturalism, because that is exactly what he was elected to fight against. According to McCarthy, Trump likes the idea of cutting a deal with Russia, because Russia isn't at the heart of … [Read more...]
