When the NRA endorsed Donald Trump for president, there was some backlash among members who didn't trust Trump's record on gun rights and from those who preferred other candidates. Ultimately, of course, Trump would win the presidency, but not before adding Gov. Mike Pence to the ticket as his Vice President. Of the governor the NRA writes: "Pro-gun candidates don’t come any better than Mike Pence." That, to say the least, is a massive vote of confidence from the nation's largest organization focused on protecting the Second Amendment. Pence made the Second Amendment a highlight of his … [Read more...]
Gun Control’s Effect on Violence, Part II
Last week I introduced you to a piece by Robert Verbruggen explaining the flaw in a study of violence involving firearms by the Center for American Progress (a liberal progressive think tank). Verbruggen continued his exploration of research involving guns and crime here. In his second piece he addresses an academic paper written by Gary Kleck, Tomislav Kovandzic, and Jon Bellows. Of the three studies I’ll be looking at in this series, this is arguably the most complicated. Instead of looking at the 50 states, it looks at every city in America with a population of 25,000 or more—1,078 in all. … [Read more...]
Hillary Will Gut Meaning of Second Amendment
Hillary Clinton has the potential to be one of the most dangerous presidents ever when it comes to Second Amendment freedoms. Cato Institute's Adam Bates explains Clinton's "vague and ambiguous" positions on the Second Amendment here. Hillary Clinton made two seemingly conflicting assertions about the Second Amendment: that she supports an individual right to bear arms and that the Heller case was wrongly decided. Here’s the problem for Secretary Clinton: The Supreme Court held in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own a handgun for … [Read more...]
Gun Control’s Effect on Violence, Part I
Does gun control reduce violence? No. But if you ask the Hillary supporting Center for American Progress (CAP) they’ll roll out their special report saying that it does. The report, as an aside, has been referenced by The New York Times. That’s a bad start. Robert Verbruggen at The American Conservative, explains how the report references the “Gun Violence Index.” The index is basically a measure of gun deaths. But two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides, not violence. Stricter state guns laws do not correlate with less gun violence. Verbruggen explains: We can see the importance of this second … [Read more...]
The Tactical Nightstand
I like this from the guys at the Loadout Room. Picture this…You’ve put the kids to bed for the evening and after locking the front door and turning all the lights off you yourself go to bed. You are then awakened several hours later by a strange noise coming from downstairs. It sounds as if someone broke a window and are now attempting to breach the front door. Taking a step back, what have you done to prepare for a possible home invasion in the middle of the night? What do you have at arm’s reach that will give you a leg up in this situation, an advantage over the scumbag breaking into your … [Read more...]
5 Ways to Improve Your Prepping
Take it from me. You never know when your house could go up in flames. I like this advice for prepping from Rex Nanorum at The Loadout Room: If you’ve been prepping for a little while, you’ve probably got the basics covered. You have a bug-out bag, a decent stash of MRE’s or #10 cans of freeze-dried food and a plan to keep it all secure once you’re hunkered down. What’s next? Besides piling up more supplies, what else can you do to further prepare yourself for a disaster? Here are 5 ideas you may find useful in going from beginner to intermediate prepper. 1. Bug out picnic/range … [Read more...]

$25 Million Ain’t What it Used to Be
Barron’s cover story, “Penta Millionaires: The New Rising Class” reports in 2015 there were a record one million households with more than $5 million in investable assets, up 5% from 2014. This should be fun. Let’s guess how much of this new wealth will actually stick. I’m not talking about the Pentas' necessarily. I’m thinking more about the $25 million crowd. Imagine their burn rate—fueling those jets is expensive! What caught my eye is the story of a Mr. Anthony Alves, 54, who sold his New Jersey company, Oasis Foods, putting his net-worth well over $25 million. “It was life-changing,” … [Read more...]
"I'm Not the Victim Hillary Needs Me to Be"
In a response to a Democratic presidential debate question on Oct. 13, 2015 Hillary Clinton put NRA members as a list of enemies she is most proud of. Here’s what Kimberly Corban had to say about it: Clinton’s declaration made us wonder how NRA members feel about being recklessly declared her enemy. So we decided to ask them: How does it feel to be named Public Enemy Number 1 by Hillary Clinton? Today we hear from Kimberly Corban, a rape survivor who was largely dismissed by President Barack Obama at a televised town hall meeting earlier this year. On May 12, 2006, my life was irrevocably … [Read more...]
